FORT MYERS, Fla. – University of North Florida women's basketball finishes its first Atlantic Sun road swing on Monday evening at Florida Gulf Coast at Alico Arena at 5:15 p.m.
“We'll be tested once again,” said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. “Florida Gulf Coast is an extremely talented team that will take advantage of any opportunities that are given to them. We have to be on top of our game, both physically and mentally.”
This will be UNF's last away game for nearly three weeks. The Ospreys aim to bounce back from a 71-57 setback suffered at Stetson on Saturday. Shayla Wilson scored a team-best nine points and was 4-for-9 from the field.
UNF aims to get its first away win of the season. Five of UNF's six wins this year have come on its home court at UNF Arena, while the Ospreys' other win was a neutral-site victory against Coastal Carolina.
Defending Atlantic Sun Champions, Florida Gulf Coast is ranked No. 12 in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Basketball Mid-Major Top 25 Poll. The Eagles have won their last four games, including on Saturday against Jacksonville. Florida Gulf Coast currently leads the A-Sun in scoring defense (55.7 ppg), scoring margin (+10.7), assists (14.9 apg), steals (11.5 spg), turnover margin (+5.4) and assist/turnover ratio (1.1) and is also second in scoring (66.4 ppg). Brittany Kenndey shoots a conference-best 53.4 percent (55-for-103) from the field and averages an A-Sun leading 3.1 steals per contest. Meanwhile, Sarah Hansen, who has led the team in scoring nine times already this year, averages 17.3 points per game that ranks second in the conference.
Florida Gulf Coast holds an 8-2 advantage in the all-time series and has won the last four meetings. Additionally, Alico Arena has not been friendly to the Ospreys, who have yet to win on the Eagles' home court.
