SPARANTBURG, S.C. – University of North Florida women's basketball finishes out a two-game road trip on Monday evening at USC Upstate with a 5 p.m., game at Hodge Center that will air live on ESPN3.
“USC Upstate is consistent on offense and has the ability to play a variety of personnel,” said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. “While our offense is hitting its stride, we must execute effectively on both ends of the floor tomorrow night.”
It is the second time this season in which UNF had one of its games on ESPN3. The Ospreys previously defeated Northern Kentucky on Jan. 2 in an ESPN3 game that took place at UNF Arena.
The Ospreys have already won on the front end of the road trip, escaping ETSU with a 62-56 win at MSHA Athletics Center on Saturday. Ki Conner became the second Osprey this season to register 20-or-more points in a single game. Conner scored a career-high 23 points – 14 of which were all of UNF's last points of the first half – behind 5-for-9 shooting from long range and an 8-for-10 performance at the free throw line. Meanwhile, Raneisha Lamar picked up her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds against the Bucs. Lamar's four double-doubles are currently the second single-season highest by a UNF player during the Ospreys' Division I era. The only player to have more single-season double-doubles is Larkira Jones, who had six during the 2010-11 season.
UNF enters Monday as the top three-point shooting team when it comes to Atlantic Sun-only games. The Ospreys are shooting 40.2 percent (53-for-142) from beyond the arc against conference opponents this season. Meanwhile, Conner has been particularly hot, shooting 51.2 percent (21-for-41) from long range against A-Sun teams.
As one of the A-Sun' better shooting teams, USC Upstate ranks among the conference's top three overall leaders in field goal percentage (.411, 3rd), three-point field goal percentage (.315, 3rd) and free throw percentage (.749, 2nd). The Spartans have won their last two games after a five-game skid and have limited opponents to just 52.5 ppg in the last two games. Brittany Starling had a 19-point, 15-rebound double-double to help USC Upstate in its most recent victory – a 72-53 win over Jacksonville on Saturday. Meanwhile, Tee'Ara Copney's team-leading 12.7 ppg and 2.6 spg are fifth and second in the A-Sun, respectively. Tyra Smith ranks second in the league in free throw percentage, shooting 85.2 percent (52-for-61) from the line.
