Swimming/Diving Hosts Final Home Meet/Senior Day

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida swimming and diving team will host Georgia Southern in the final home meet of the season on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1:00 p.m. at the UNF Aquatic Center. The meet will also serve as Senior Day and seniors Katie England, Sara Evans and Julia Moomaw will be honored prior to the meet.
The Ospreys enter the weekend with a 6-2 overall dual meet record, including a 4-0 mark at home. North Florida enters the weekend after winning a pair of double dual meets earlier in the month. UNF defeated UNC Wilmington (W, 129.00-108.00) and South Georgia College (W, 198.00-29.00) on Jan. 4 before downing Radford (W, 180.00-61.00) and South Georgia College (W, 196.00-31.00) the following day.
In its first home meet of the season, the University of North Florida swimming and diving team defeated UNC Wilmington and South Georgia College.
The women's swimming and diving meets began with the 200-yard medley relay. The relay team of Ellice Mae Sanchez, Bridget Woods, Lissa Janowicz and Natalie McCallum earned second place in the event, posting a combined time of 1:51.44.
In the second event of the day, Amy Taylor finished just off the off the school record in the 1,000 freestyle. The freshman won the event with a time of 10:21.06, just five seconds off the UNF record of 10:16.88. Olivia Langford earned third place accolades in the race with a time of 10:35.96. Maria Bernard claimed first place in the 200 freestyle with a time 1:57.29, while twin sister Rebeca Bernard took third place, posting a time of 1:58.95. Sanchez was the top finisher of the day for the Ospreys in the 50 freestyle. The sophomore clocked a 25.49 to earn bronze, while McCallum finished just off the podium with a time of 25.53. In the 200 individual medley, Evans and Woods finished 1-2 in the event to give the Ospreys a 50.00-43.00 lead at the meet's intermission. Evans earned first place with a time of 2:11.07, while Woods took second with a time of 2:11.67. England finished just off the podium with a time of 2:18.15 – her fastest time of the season.
For the second consecutive meet, the Ospreys swept the 1-meter diving competition. Moomaw paced the Ospreys with a winning score of 261.85, edging out teammate Monica Rice (261.05). Amanda Habig earned third place honors with a score of 240.00, while Fernanda Robles took fourth with a 204.05.
The Ospreys swept the 200 butterfly. Taylor, Evans and Lissa Janowicz finished in order for the Ospreys. Taylor notched a season-best time of 2:07.95 to win the event, followed by Evans (2:10.52) and Janowicz (2:11.38). The 100 freestyle saw the Bernard twins taking second and third. M. Bernard earned silver with a time of 54.36, barely out-touching R. Bernard (54.38). Janie Kennedy and Caitlyn Gutierrez finished back-to-back for North Florida, giving North Florida four of the top five finishers. In the 200 backstroke, Sanchez earned a third place finish with a time of 2:08.83. Taylor and Langford finished back-to-back in the 500 freestyle. Taylor was barely out-touched by four tenths of a second in the event, claiming second place with a time of 5:09.74. Langford, who posted her second fastest time of the year, clocked a 5:11.21 to earn third place points.
North Florida also swept the 3-meter diving. Moomaw was the top finisher in the event with a score of 258.55, followed by Rice (255.40). Robles was third with a score of 253.00 and then Habig (238.00).
In the 200 breaststroke, Woods (2:27.26) and Evans (2:27.38) finished back-to-back, taking second and third, respectively. In the final event of the day, the Ospreys relay team of R. Bernard, M. Bernard, Langford and McCallum earned silver with a second place finish and a time of 1:41.20.
The next day, the University of North Florida swimming and diving team once again defeated both opponents in a tri meet. The Ospreys posted a victory over South Georgia College and Radford. On the day, North Florida won 11 of the 13 total events.

Bernard posted a time of 4:06.22 to win the event. In second place was the team of Kennedy, England, Langford and R. Bernard who combined for a time of 4:15.52. In the 1,000 freestyle, Woods and Alexiou finished back-to-back to claim second and third in the event. Woods notched a season-best time of 11:03.00 in the event to take silver, while Alexiou posted an 11:25.91 – also a season-best time. The Ospreys swept the 200 freestyle – the first of four events UNF swept on the day. McCallum led the charge for North Florida with a first place finish and a time of 1:59.24. She was followed by Taylor and Langford who posted times of 1:59.37 and 2:02.03, respectively. The 50 freestyle saw North Florida claiming three of the top for spots. R. Bernard won the event with a time of 25.87. She was followed by Kennedy who posted a time of 26.01. Finishing just off the podium was Gutierrez (26.55). The trio of Evans, Woods and Janowicz swept the 200 IM. Evans cruised to a win with a time of 2:11.57, followed by Woods' 2:16.55. Janowicz clocked a 2:18.49 for third and to complete the sweep.
In 1-meter diving, Rice edged Moomaw by 1.05 points to win the event. The sophomore scored 229.60 on the board, followed by Moomaw's 228.55. Habig (224.40) helped the Ospreys sweep the event with a third place finish. Rounding out the scoring for North Florida was Robles (222.45) and Whittle (200.55).
The Ospreys' Janowicz and Taylor finished second and third, respectively, in the 100 butterfly as the only two UNF swimmers in the event. Janowicz notched a 1:02.25 to finish just ahead of Taylor's 1:02.35. In the 100 freestyle, Sanchez won the event with a time of 54.56 to edge out teammate M. Bernard who posted a time of 54.63. Kennedy (58.58) and Hannah Brown (1.00.90 – season-best) finished back-to-back to round out the scoring for the Ospreys. Sanchez won her third event of the day in the 100 backstroke. The sophomore notched a time of 1:01.44 to win the event. She was followed by Alexiou, who finished second with a time of 1:02.82, and Evans (1:03.33). The Ospreys finished 1-2 in the 500 freestyle, sending their only two swimmers in the event to the top of the podium. Langford won the event with a time of 5:19.53, followed by Gutierrez, who clocked a 5:26.12.
The 3-meter diving saw Moomaw winning her third event in two days. After earning victories in both the 1-meter and 3-meter on Friday evening, Moomaw posted a score of 277.35 to win the 3-meter board on Saturday. Robles earned bronze in the event with a score of 247.10, followed by Habig (240.15), Rice (239.50) and Whittle (239.40).
In the final individual event of the afternoon, North Florida swept the 100 breaststroke. Woods, England and McCallum finished in order for the Ospreys. Woods notched a 1:09.68, followed by England's 1:11.89 and McCallum's 1:12.06. The last event of the day was the 400 freestyle relay. North Florida's ream of M. Bernard, R. Bernard, Taylor and McCallum posted a time of 3:45.00 to win the event. The Ospreys also claimed second in the event as the quartet of Alexiou, Gutierrez, Brown and England notched a collective time of 3:53.89.
For her efforts in the two meets, Moomaw was named Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Diver of the Week. For Moomaw, it was her second Diver of the Week honor this season and the eighth of her career. The North Florida divers have captured four CCSA Diver of the Week accolades this season.
