Men’s Soccer Concludes UCR/Courtyard by Marriott Soccer Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team ended the 2012 UCR/Courtyard by Marriott Soccer Invitational with a 9-0 loss to San Diego State at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium. The Ospreys fell behind early and were unable to recover.
North Florida surrendered 35 shots, including 20 shots on goal, while registering three shots on the night.
Despite the loss, freshman goalkeeper Kyle Nasta posted a personal-best 11 saves in the match. Eleven saves in match is the second most in North Florida history behind Andrew Calise (2007-10) who recorded 12 saves at Mercer on Oct. 4, 2007. Nasta previously had 10 saves in a 4-3 victory over Georgia Southern on Sept. 8.
Three Ospreys recorded shots in the match. Luis Daniel Camejo, Oscar Castillo and Jake Frahm each notched shots in the contest.
San Diego State took command of the match early in the first half. After North Florida recorded the first two shots of the match, the Aztecs scored their first goal in the 10th minute of the match by Kevin Bick. The goal proved to be the match-winner.
SDSU used three consecutive goals by Jordan Ongaro – 12th, 27th and 39th minutes – to extend the lead to 4-0. The Aztecs extended the lead to 6-0 before halftime with a pair of goals – 43rd and 45th minutes – by Kody Duff.
The second half saw San Diego State notch three additional goals to provide the final margin of victory of 9-0.
North Florida returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 23, as the Ospreys take on Furman in a road match slated for 4:00 p.m. Head coach Derek Marinatos was the top assistant for the Paladins for four seasons (2006-10) before taking over the reins at North Florida last season. The match will be the first for Marinatos against his former team.
