JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida women's tennis returns to the UNF Tennis Complex for one final weekend this season when the Ospreys close out their home schedule with matches against Belmont and Lipscomb. UNF faces Belmont at 10 a.m., on Friday, while the Ospreys host Lipscomb at 10 a.m., in conjunction with the men's tennis match between UNF and Lipscomb.
The weekend will be a special one with Campus Kids Day taking place on Friday. Then on Saturday, UNF will honor seniors Aline Berkenbrock and Danielle Day for their accomplishments during their UNF careers.
UNF will attempt to continue its hot streak. Since beginning Atlantic Sun play three weeks ago, the Ospreys have rattled off six-straight victories, including five against conference teams. UNF currently sits atop of the A-Sun standings and remains the only team undefeated in conference play.
Home court advantage has certainly played to the Ospreys' favor this season. UNF is a perfect 6-0 at the UNF Tennis Complex. In their last home match, the Ospreys posted a 7-0 sweep of West Virginia, which was the first of three straight sweeps.
Multiple Ospreys enter the weekend riding winning streaks in singles play. Marina Cunningham, Day and Simona Weymar all carry 5-0 marks in Atlantic Sun singles matches, while Lorena Aviles and Berkenbrock are both 4-0 against conference opponents. In doubles, UNF has yet to lose a doubles match to a conference opponent. The doubles pairs of No. 78 Aviles and Berkenbrock, Rebeca Pereira and Weymar, and Melanie Aguirre and Day are all 5-0 in A-Sun play this season. Additionally, Aguirre and Day bring an eight-match winning streak into the weekend and are a perfect 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Belmont will attempt to end a three-match skid on Friday. The Bruins have been swept in their last two matches (ETSU and USC Upstate) and fell 6-1 at Kennesaw State in their last road match. Belmont's last win was a 5-2 victory at Mercer two weeks ago. The road has not faired too well for Belmont, who are 1-5 in away matches. Following Friday's match, the Bruins make the quick cross-town trip over to Jacksonville to conclude the road portion of their 2012 season.
Lipscomb begins a two match-weekend on Friday at Jacksonville. The Lady Bison enter the weekend on a three-match losing streak and were swept 7-0 at Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday. Lipscomb also dropped both of its A-Sun matches last weekend, falling to both ETSU and USC Upstate. The Lady Bison's last win was a 4-3 decision at Mercer on Mar. 27.
