JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Friday will be a big night at the UNF Softball Complex for the University of North Florida softball team. The Ospreys play their final home doubleheader of the season when they host cross-town rival Jacksonville as part of the SunTrust River City Rumble. It will also be Senior Night with Alyson Bailey, Kaley Brosky, Kelly Dill, Richelle Raley and Chie Someya all being recognized prior to the doubleheader.
Friday's doubleheader will also have an impact to the Atlantic Sun standings. Both teams enter the doubleheader with 7-7 Atlantic Sun records and are two of four teams with .500 records in conference play.
The outcome of the two games will also go towards the overall standings in the SunTrust River City Rumble with two points at stake. UNF has already clinched the “SunTrust Old Wooden Barrel” after the Ospreys' men's golf team got the decisive 11th point at the Atlantic Sun Men's Golf Championships earlier this week. UNF currently leads the overall standings 11-3.
UNF is coming off a mid-week doubleheader split at Georgia Southern on Wednesday. After falling to the Eagles 3-0 in the first game, the Ospreys rebounded with a 2-1 win in Game Two. Brosky got UNF on the scoreboard in the first inning by scoring on a wild pitch. Then with the game tied 1-1, Danica Mandarano scored the eventual game-winner in the sixth. In Atlantic Sun play, the Ospreys are 5-3 this season against conference opponents at home. Of its four conference series to take place at the UNF Softball Complex, the Ospreys have swept two of them.
Jacksonville is coming off a pair of walk-off losses at Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday. The Dolphins were tripped up 3-2 in 11 innings in Game One and then also fell 3-2 in the second game. However, Jacksonville has won four of its last five games in the River City, including a 9-1 win and a 5-1 win over ETSU last Saturday. Kayla Ouellet enters the game with a team-best .341 clip and is the only Dolphin with over 50 hits and 30 runs scored. She currently has 56 hits and 31 runs. Meanwhile, Sarah Simon and Amanda Schmidt both enter with 36 and 32 RBI, respectively.
UNF leads the all-time series 8-4. However, Jacksonville has won three of the last four meetings, including both of last year's games.
First pitch of Game One is slated for 5 p.m. Friday's Senior Night festivities are scheduled to begin approximately 10 minutes prior to the start of Game One.
