
Softball Splits Mid-Week Doubleheader at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – With rain threatening throughout the afternoon, the University of North Florida softball team split a mid-week doubleheader at Georgia Southern. The Ospreys were tripped up 3-0 in Game One, but rebounded with a 2-1 win in Game Two.
All three of Georgia Southern's runs came in the third inning. UNF attempt to pick off Lexi Allen at second base, but the ball bounced off Allen's knee and allowed Tabby Douberley to score from third. Then Marie Fogle had a two-run home run to right field as the Eagles took a 3-0 lead.
Kayla Goff was credited with the loss after allowing three runs off seven hits in 6.0 innings. Golf registered three strikeouts.
Brooke Red received the win after allowing two hits in 7.0 innings. Red also fanned seven batters.
In Game Two, UNF jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Kaley Brosky scored on a wild pitch.
Georgia Southern tied the game at 1-1 in the third when Fogle had an infield RBI single. However, the Ospreys broke the tie in the sixth. UNF took advantage of an Eagle miscue on a Chie Someya sacrifice as Danica Mandarano scored the eventual game-winner from second.
Ashley Brown received the win after coming on in relief for the final 2.2 innings. Brown gave up three hits and struck out one.
Marla Thompson also came in relief and pitched the final 4.2 innings for the Eagles. Thompson allowed one run off one hit. She had two strikeouts.
UNF returns to action on Friday when the Ospreys host cross-town rival Jacksonville in an Atlantic Sun and SunTrust River City Rumble doubleheader at the UNF Softball Complex starting at 5 p.m. Friday's doubleheader will also be Senior Day as UNF recognizes its five seniors – Alyson Bailey, Brosky, Kelly Dill, Richelle Raley, Chie Someya – prior to the start of Game One.
