JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida softball ended its weekend with a two-game sweep of Belmont on Sunday at the UNF Softball Complex. The Ospreys rallied in Game One to win 5-4 and then used a big sixth inning in the second game to win 8-0 in a run-ruled game.

In the first game, UNF got out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Mariah Reynolds hit a bomb over the left field wall. It was Reynolds' fourth homer of the season.

However, the Ospreys' lead was short-lived as Belmont tied the game in the top of the second. Heather Turner's triple drove in Kayla Brown to make it a 1-1 game.

UNF got a pair of runs in the third inning to regain the lead. A Reynolds two-out, RBI single brought home Alyson Bailey, while Reynolds later scored on a fielding error by Belmont and gave UNF the 3-1 advantage

Belmont used a three-run fifth inning to go up 4-3. All three of the Bruins' runs came on bases-loaded situations, with Kim Johnson scoring as Kat Hollingsworth was hit by a pitch, Courtney Elrod scoring on a UNF miscue and Hannah Irwin reaching home on a Becca Gift sac fly.

UNF rallied and got one run in both the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, Richelle Raley drilled a single up the middle and brought home Danica Mandarano from second to tie the game at 4-4. In the seventh, Reynolds hit another RBI single, this time brining home Jackie Reese for the game-winner.

Ashley Brown was credited with the win after coming in for the final 2.2 innings. Brown struck out three and did not allow any hits or runs.

Mia Vierra entered the game in the seventh and was credited with the loss after allowing the game-winning run. Vierra also allowed one hit.

Game Two started as a pitcher's duel between UNF's Kayla Goff and Belmont's Vierra. Neither team was able to generate much offensively through the first part of the game as there was just one hit through the first three innings.

UNF broke the scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth with Kelly Dill's two-out single up the middle bringing home Stephanie McAdam and giving the Ospreys a 1-0 advantage.

All seven of the Ospreys remaining runs came in a powerful sixth inning that saw UNF bat around its order. With runners on the corners, Dill smacked a RBI-single to right field that scored Lauren Pollack. Chie Someya added another RBI-single in the next at-bat, this time allowing Manadarano to reach home. With runners at second and third, Marissa Thomas laid down a bunt and Belmont attempted to get Dill out at home. However, Dill beat out the throw to put UNF up 4-0.

Reese drilled a one-out double to left center that brought home two more runs in Someya and Thomas. Then with runners on the corners and two outs, Pollack drilled the ball to right field and brought home both Reese and Megan David for the game's final two runs.

Kayla Goff pitched all 6.0 innings in order to get the win. Goff allowed just three hits and fanned seven batters in the shutout.

Vierra had the loss after pitching 5.1 innings and allowing seven runs on 10 hits. She also had one strikeout.

UNF is on the road next weekend for back-to-back Atlantic Sun doubleheaders. The Ospreys are next in action on Friday at Kennesaw State. First pitch of the twinbill is set for 4 p.m.
