KENNESAW, Ga. – The University of North Florida baseball team continues Atlantic Sun Conference play with a three-game series on the road at Kennesaw State at Stillwell Stadium. The Owls are the Ospreys' oldest rival, dating back to the inaugural season in 1988. North Florida has squared off against Kennesaw State more than any other team in program history.
The series opens with a game on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. before a pair of afternoon games over the weekend. The Ospreys and Owls take the field on Saturday, March 31 at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m.
North Florida and Kennesaw State have met on the diamond 63 times heading into the weekend. The Ospreys hold a slight 32-31 advantage in the series. UNF is 19-16 against KSU in Jacksonville, but is 13-15 in Kennesaw.
North Florida and Kennesaw State have met in two NAIA District 25 Tournaments with each team hosting the event twice. In addition, the two teams each hosted the other in an NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional with the Owls hosting in 1999 and the Ospreys hosting in 2001, 2003 and 2005.
The first meeting between the two teams took place at the 1988 NAIA District 25 Tournament in Kennesaw, Ga. The following year, the Ospreys hosted the NAIA District 25 Tournament in Jacksonville, where the two teams met once again.
Last season, the Owls swept the three-game tilt in Jacksonville. The last time the two teams met in Kennesaw, Ga., KSU took the series 2-1, but UNF won the final game, edging the hosts 8-7.
Scouting the Opposition:
The Owls (15-11, 4-2) are currently tied for second in the A-Sun standings with Belmont after a series win over Mercer and Jacksonville. Being carried by solid pitching and the offensive production by Andy Chriscaden and Aaron Dobbs, KSU is seeking national attention.
Currently ranked No. 14 in the nation in home runs with eight, Chriscaden is batting .522 with six home runs and 17 RBI in the last six games. His senior counterpart Dobbs is batting .429, with 12 hits, seven runs scored, and four stolen bases in as many games.
