Baseball Travels to Tampa for Midweek Tilt

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team heads to Tampa, Fla. for a midweek game against in-state rival University of South Florida on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. at the USF Baseball Stadium.

North Florida opened the 2012 season 1-2, dropping the opening weekend series to Southern Illinois. The Ospreys hit the road for the next four games, looking to rebound.
North Florida is 4-5 (.444) all-time against USF. The Ospreys are 1-5 (.167) against the Bulls in Tampa, but 3-0 (1.000) at Harmon Stadium.
The game is the first of two between the two teams. The Ospreys and Bulls play in Jacksonville on May 9. Last season, the two teams were schedule to play two games, but one of the games was cancelled because of inclement weather.
North Florida hit five home runs on the weekend, receiving long balls from Corey Bass, Joe Iorio, Tyler Marincov, Bryan Mathews and Michael Wesner. For Iorio and Mathews the homers were their first collegiate home runs.
The Ospreys averaged over 10 hits per game (10.3) against SIU. to open the season. In addition, UNF had 10 extra base hits in the opening weekend (five doubles and five home runs).
In the opening weekend, nine (9) different players saw their first action ever in a North Florida uniform – Nick Allbritton, Spencer Brown, Dillon Ennis, Garrick Ferguson, Evan Incinelli, Bryan Mathews, Michael Renner, Drew Weeks and Joe Wielbruda.
Scouting the Opponent:
USF enters the midweek game a perfect 3-0 on the season. The Bulls downed a trio of Big 10 opponents in the Big Ten-Big East Challenge. USF opened the season with a 5-3 over Ohio State before besting Michigan State, 2-1. In the final game of the weekend, the Bulls earned a 4-3 victory over Minnesota.
