Swimming/Diving has Record-Breaking Day 2 at CCSAs

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of North Florida swimming and diving team dropped from third place to fifth place after the second day of competition at the 2012 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Swimming and Diving Championships at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia.
The Ospreys broke four school records on the day with five total school records thus far at the CCSA Championships. In addition, five Ospreys swimmers earned all-conference accolades as Sara Evans and the relay team of Christine Kemp, Bridget Woods, Maria Bernard and Natalie McCallum placed in the top three in their respective events.
Florida Gulf Coast remained in first place with 564 points. Liberty follows with 367.5 points, while Georgia Southern is behind in third with 298.5 points. Gardner-Webb is fourth with 243 points and North Florida is in fifth with 236 points. Davidson College is in sixth with 223, College of Charleston is in seventh with 178 and Campbell is in eighth with 134. Rounding out the field is Radford with 94, Howard with 69, VMI with 52 and North Carolina A&T with 44.
In the first race of the day, North Florida school record – 1:46.86 – in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Ellice Mae Sanchez, Woods, McCallum and M. Bernard posted a time of 1:47.53.
For the second day in a row, Evans earned All-CCSA accolades placing in the top three in the 400 individual medley. Evans posted shattered her own school record by nearly four full seconds with a time of 4:24.69 to take third place and earn her second all-conference honor of the meet.
McCallum was the top finisher of the day for the Ospreys in the 100 butterfly, posting a season-best mark of 58.49. In the 200 freestyle, Kemp posted a season-best time of 1:54.48 to finish as the top Osprey in the event.
Woods broke assistant coach Monique Salles-Cunha's five-year old school record in the 100 breaststroke, posting a time of 1:04.27 in the event. Katie England (1:06.58) also advanced to the finals in the 100 breaststroke.
Kristina Alexiou (58.97) and Sanchez (59.02) finished 1-2 among Ospreys swimmers in the finals of the 100 backstroke.
The 800 freestyle relay team of Kemp, Woods, M. Bernard and McCallum took third place in the event with a school-record time of 7:33.18 to earn All-Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association honors.
