Swimming/Diving Concludes CCSA Championships

Final Results
ATHENS, Ga. – The University of North Florida swimming and diving team completed competition at the 2012 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Swimming & Diving Championships Saturday at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia. The Ospreys finished the meet in fifth place and on the final day of competition junior Sara Evans broke the school record in the 200-yard breaststroke and junior Julia Moomaw claimed All-CCSA accolades in the three-meter diving.
During the three-day meet, the Ospreys boasted seven All-CCSA honors and broke six school records.
The Florida Gulf Coast women won the 2012 CCSA Championships. The Eagles picked up a total of 840 points, leading them to their fourth-straight CCSA Championship.
Liberty followed with 538.50 points, while Georgia Southern took third with a score of 477.50. Gardner-Webb placed fourth with 365 points and in fifth with 348 points was North Florida. Davidson College took sixth-place with 340 points, while College of Charleston followed in seventh with 267 points and Campbell in eighth with 181 points. Rounding out the field was Radford with 140 points, Howard with 92 points, VMI with 68 points and North Carolina A&T with 56 points.
Liberty's Brye Ravettine took home Female Swimmer of the Year and Women's Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet. At the CCSA Championships, Ravettine took first and earned B cuts in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.19, 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.59 and 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.33.
Sophomore Sara Meisenhelder of Georgia Southern garnered Female Diver of the Year, as she is currently ranked fourth-place in CCSA top 16 times in both the 1-meter dive and 3-meter dive with scores of 263.25 and 265.35, respectively. Florida Gulf Coast's Maegan Butler was honored as Most Outstanding Diver of the Meet, placing first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive with scores of 258.70 and 302.00, respectively.
Emma Svensson of Florida Gulf Coast took home Most Outstanding Female Freshman Performer of the Meet, placing first in the 50-yard freestyle and earning a “B” cut with a time of 22.19 as well as placing second in the 100-yard backstroke and earning a “B” cut with a time of 54.59. She also earned a “B” cut in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.33.
Liberty head coach Jake Shellenberger garnered Women's Swimming Coach of the Year and for the first time and Andrew Goe of Florida Gulf Coast took home Women's Diving Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.
The Ospreys started the final day of competition with the 1,650 freestyle. Freshman Christine Kemp was North Florida's top finisher in the event, posting a season-best time of 17:30.59.
Kristina Alexiou and Ellice Mae Sanchez finished 1-2 among Ospreys swimmers in the finals of the 200 backstroke. Alexiou notched a season-best time of 2:03.58, while Sanchez posted a season-best mark of 2:07.50.
Natalie McCallum was the top finisher for North Florida in preliminaries of the 100 freestyle, recording a season-best time of 53.15.
In the 200 breaststroke, Evans broke her third school record of the weekend. After breaking the school record in the 200 individual medley on day one, Evans followed that by shattering the school mark in the 400 IM. On the final day of competition, the junior broke yet another record by posting a time of 2:18.69 in the 200 breaststroke. In addition, Bridget Woods recorded a season-best mark of 2:21.02, while Katie England posted a personal-best time of 2:23.13 in the event.
The 200 butterfly saw Lissa Janowicz record a season-best time of 2:07.38 in the finals.
For the second time in her career, Moomaw earned All-Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association honors for her performance in three-meter diving. The junior posted an overall score of 271.20 in the finals to claim third place and earn a spot on the podium.
The 400 freestyle relay team just missed a school record by 18-hundredths of a second as the quartet of Kemp, Maria Bernard, Rebeca Bernard and McCallum posted a time of 3:29.67 in the event. The UNF school record, set at the 2010 CCSA Championships, is 3:29.49.
The Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championship was the final collegiate meet for the Ospreys lone senior Gala Poon.
