JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida swimming and diving team is set to start competition at the 2012 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships this weekend beginning Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. Competition in the CCSA Championships continues through Saturday, Feb. 18.
Last season, the Ospreys finished the CCSA Championships in fifth place. During the three-day meet, North Florida posted four new school records. Former swimmer Kimberly Kuehl (2009-11) posted the school record (23.83) in the 50-yard freestyle. Current junior Sara Evans broke three school records over the weekend. She set the school record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:19.75. In the 200 individual medley, Evans timed out at 2:04.45, while setting a new standard in the 400 IM with a 4:28.63.
Evans also finished the meet, earning All-CCSA accolades.
The Ospreys enter the final regular-season meet of the year with a young team. UNF has nine freshmen swimmers and a duo of freshman divers with just two junior swimmers and one junior diver. The meet will be the final for North Florida's lone senior Gala Poon.
