
Saturday Rumble Part 2: MSOC Hosts JU at 7 p.m.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team wraps up the 2012 season with a SunTrust River City Rumble match against crosstown rival Jacksonville on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Hodges Stadium. In addition the barrel standings, the match will also serve as Senior Day and the Ospreys' trio of Greg Crowell, Shane Donovan and Brad Sienkiewicz will be honored prior to the 7:00 p.m. match.
Jacksonville holds an 11-7-0 lead in the all-time series and a 9-6-0 mark since 1994. The Ospreys are 5-4-0 away from Hodges Stadium, but 1-4-0 at home since 1994. Each of the last six matches with the Dolphins has been a one-goal contest. UNF is 2-4-0 in that stretch winning a pair of 2-1 contests (Oct. 17, 2007 and Oct. 10, 2009), while dropping four 1-0 decisions. Last season was the first year that the home school won the match since 2005.
North Florida enters the match after defeating Lipscomb, 3-2, in double overtime on Sunday, Oct. 28 at Hodges Stadium. The win was the first Atlantic Sun Conference victory of the year for the Ospreys and marked the first A-Sun win in the Derek Marinatos Era. The win also snapped a 10-match losing skid for UNF.
Jacksonville enters the match after dropping a double overtime match to Lipscomb on Friday, Oct. 26 at the Ashley Sports Complex. The Dolphins enter the match, dropping four of their last five matches and seven of their last 10 matches.
North Florida is 1-6-0 in the Atlantic Sun Conference, while Jacksonville is 2-5-0. If the Ospreys defeat the Dolphins, UNF will jump JU in the Atlantic Sun standings.
In addition, the Ospreys will look to improve on the 2012-13 SunTrust River City Rumble standings. Heading into the weekend, UNF leads JU, 3.5-0.5 in the overall barrel standings. The North Florida volleyball team also hosts Jacksonville in a match on Saturday evening (5:00 p.m. at UNF Arena) so the Ospreys have the opportunity for two more Rumble points.
In the last match, North Florida and Lipscomb were tied 2-2 in double overtime when UNF's Mauricio Valderruten took a ball from Camilo Garcia at the top of the box and put the ball into the back left post for the golden goal.
North Florida received a balanced attack offensively. Drew Bruce, Garcia and Valderruten each scored goals on the afternoon, finishing the match with a pair of shots apiece. Alejandro Jergovic also notched two shots in the match. Garcia and Valderruten led the Ospreys with two shots on goal each. Josh Damm, Garcia and Jean Rivaroli added assists in the match. As a team, North Florida finished the game with 12 shots, including seven shots on goal. Eight different players recorded shots with five players registering shots on goal.
Defensively, Sienkiewicz earned his second victory of the season. The transfer earned the victory in the Ospreys' season opener against Siena (W, 4-2) and combined with freshman Kyle Nasta for a shutout victory against Florida Atlantic (W, 1-0). Sienkiewicz surrendered a pair of goals, but notched 12 saves in the match. The 12 saves ties a school record. Sienkiewicz notched 12 saves in a match earlier this season against Florida Gulf Coast that originally tied the school record for most saves in a match set by Andrew Calise (2007-10) who recorded 12 saves at Mercer on Oct. 4, 2007.
Lipscomb started the scoring with a goal in the third minute of the match. The Bisons' Jeremy Reid bounced a pass to Reece Holcombe who took the hip-high volley from 18 yards into the top of the net, giving the visitors an early 1-0 advantage. Neither team was able to score in the remaining minutes of the first half and entered intermission with Lipscomb leading 1-0.
North Florida evened the score in the 53rd minute. Damm took a shot that was cleared off line in traffic. Bruce picked up the loose ball, finishing from six yards out. The goal was Bruce's first collegiate goal and tied the score at 1-1. The Ospreys took their first lead of the match with a goal in the 64th minute. Garcia used his fourth goal of the season to break the tie and put UNF in front 2-1. Garcia got a pass in the middle of the field and put the ball two-yards left of the right post from 20 yards out.
UNF stumbled defensively allowing the Bisons to score the equalizer less than a minute later. Anthony Cedano rifled a shot towards the goal that was saved by Sienkiewicz. Holcombe picked up the rebound, firing a shot at the goal that Sienkiewicz was able to block. Holcombe scored from six yards out off of the second save deflection.
The two teams played the final 25 minutes even with neither team able to score the go-ahead goal. Regulation ended with the team knotted at 2-2. In overtime, both teams took two shots with the Ospreys registering a shot on goal. The shot on goal was saved by the Bisons, forcing a second overtime.
In the second overtime, the Osprey defense continued to excel. Lipscomb took four shots, including three shots on goal, but Sienkiewicz was able to thwart the Bisons attacks. North Florida needed just one shot in double overtime to claim the match. Garcia sent a through ball to the top of the box and Valderruten netted the golden goal to give the Ospreys the victory.
