North Florida enters the week with a 22-15 overall record and a 12-9 mark in the Atlantic Sun, while Bethune-Cookman is 22-17 and 9-0 in the MEAC.
The Ospreys are 8-3 all-time against Bethune-Cookman, including a 6-0 record against the Wildcats in Jacksonville.
North Florida was unable to get things rolling on Tuesday, Mar. 29, as the Ospreys fell, 7-0, on the road to Bethune-Cookman at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Offensively, UNF managed just four hits on the day. Michael Smith, Alex Bacon, Shane Kennedy and Michael Wesner each had one hit each. In addition, Smith added a pair of walks, while Kennedy also drew a free pass.
On the mound, Paul Karmeris took the hard luck loss. He went 4.2 innings, scattering seven hits. He used three double plays by the defense to put zeros on the scoreboard for the first four innings. Karmeris struck out a pair without issuing a walk. He allowed four runs, but only one runs was earned.
Last season, North Florida recorded a pair of one-run victories over Bethune-Cookman. On Mar. 24, 2010, UNF escaped Daytona Beach with a 3-2 victory over the Wildcats. On Apr. 13, 2010, the Ospreys used back-to-back RBI singles by Justin Preckajlo (2009-10) and David Eldredge (2009-10) in the bottom of the 11th inning to win 5-4 for the 900th victory in school history.
North Florida enters the week 2-4 (.333) against schools from the state of Florida this season. UNF lost a three-game series to Florida Gulf Coast, 2-1, and split a two-game set with FIU before falling to Bethune-Cookman.
UNF enters the week with a 12-9 (.571) record in home games. The Ospreys have won seven of their last nine games at Harmon Stadium.
Scouting the Opposition:
The Wildcats overcame a slow hitting start with tough defense until the offense arrived in a big way, as Bethune-Cookman completed the sweep of the Norfolk State Spartans in their second MEAC road series of the year.
