JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team will host a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference matches beginning with Stetson on Friday, April 1 at 3 p.m. On Saturday, April 2, the Ospreys will host Florida Gulf Coast in a 10 a.m. match. Both matches will be played at the UNF Tennis Complex.
UNF (11-3, 6-1 A-Sun) has won its previous five matches and secured a 6-1 win over Belmont the last time out. The Ospreys swept the doubles matches to claim the point and won five of the six singles matches. Aline Berkenbrock, Victoria Krook, Melanie Aguirre, Simona Weymar and Melinda Doak all secured singles wins for UNF.
Weymar has tallied a 13-1 record this season, playing primarily in the No. 5 where she has a perfect 10-0 mark. Danielle Day is 11-3 on the season and has played in the No. 1 and No. 2 while Krook is 9-3, playing primarily in the No. 3. Seeing time mostly in the No. 4, Aguirre is 8-6 while Berkenbrock is 5-4 and Doak has notched a 6-6 mark this season.
Aguirre and Day have teamed up in the No. 2 doubles all season and have tallied a 12-2 record.
Stetson (15-2, 6-2 A-Sun) fell to ETSU, 4-2 the last time out. Carolina de los Santos and Unnati Purushotham picked up the two points for the Hatters, winning in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Stetson is currently third in the A-Sun standings.
Last season, the Ospreys had a regular season, 4-3 win over the Hatters and defeated them 4-1 in the semifinals of the A-Sun Championship. The Hatters earned the No. 3 seed in last year's tournament and return first team all-conference selection de los Santos, second team honoree Purushotham.
FGCU (9-7, 4-4 A-Sun) fell to FIU, 6-1 the last time out as Jen Evans picked up a point for the Eagles in the No. 4 singles match. The Eagles are currently seventh in the A-Sun standings, but will wrap up the season this weekend in Jacksonville since they are ineligible for postseason competition due to NCAA reclassification rules.
In 2010, UNF defeated the Eagles, 6-1. FGCU has two all-conference honorees back on the team this season with second team member Jen Evans and all-freshman honoree Morgan Bechtel.
