Softball to Take on Bethune-Cookman

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida softball team (16-17, 1-3 A-Sun) will play a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday against 2010 NCAA Tournament team Bethune-Cookman (11-9, 0-0 MEAC). The first pitch of game one is slated for 4 p.m. at the UNF Softball Complex.

Third-year head coach Marcie Hickey reached a milestone with the Ospreys' game two win over Mercer, 3-2, on March 26. The victory marked Hickey's 66th at the helm of the North Florida program, becoming the sole holder of the second-most all-time wins as head coach in North Florida history.

The Ospreys enter the weekend looking to keep the momentum moving forward after nabbing a win over Mercer on March 26, snapping a five-game losing streak. Senior Caroline Torre belted a walk-off homerun over the right field wall in the second game against Mercer last Saturday to return the Ospreys to the win column.

Of North Florida's 17 losses, seven came at the hands of either nationally-ranked teams or squads that competed in the NCAA Tournament last season.

Freshman Cortney Radke leads North Florida in the circle, pitching 168.1 innings this season and boasts an ERA of 2.00. Radke has tallied five shutouts in 17 complete games on the year and has fanned 185 batters. At the plate, junior Alyson Bailey boasts a team-high batting average of .301. Bailey has legged out six doubles on the year, while driving in 14 RBI and scoring nine runs.

Bethune-Cookman comes into Jacksonville amid a four-game losing streak, and has lost seven of its last nine games. The Wildcats are led at the plate by Michelle Banuelos-Smith who is batting a team high .358 with one homerun on the year, including nine doubles and 20 RBI. In the circle, Allison Garcia has worked a team-leading 112 innings to a record of 7-6 and holds an ERA of 4.66 entering the weekend.

North Florida has matched up against Bethune-Cookman just 7 times with the series currently in favor of the Ospreys, 5-2. The Wildcats have claimed two of the past three meetings. North Florida claimed the first four contests, while the teams have swapped the latest three games.
