UNF opens the week in Daytona Beach, Fla., as the Ospreys take on Bethune-Cookman in a game on Tuesday, March 29, at 4:00 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Park. On Wednesday, March 30, North Florida returns home to host USF in a midweek game slated for 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday's game will be aired on the radio on WHJX 105.7 FM. The game will also be streamed live on ASun.TV. Live stats will be available for all games.
Wednesday's game is “PJ's in the Park.” PJ's in the Park is you're opportunity to wear your favorite PJs out to support the UNF baseball team. There will be a $50 Visa gift card given away to the fan with the best PJ's in the Park outfit.
North Florida enters the midweek with a 14-11 overall record, while Bethune-Cookman is 14-13 and USF is 10-14.
The Ospreys are 8-2 all-time against Bethune-Cookman and 4-4 against USF. In Daytona Beach, UNF is 2-2 against the Wildcats. North Florida is 3-0 all-time against the Bulls in Jacksonville.
Last season, North Florida recorded a pair of one-run victories over Bethune-Cookman. On Mar. 24, 2010, the Ospreys escaped Daytona Beach with a 3-2 victory over the Wildcats. Trailing 1-0, T.J. Thompson (2007-10) hit a three-run home run and UNF was able to hang on for the one run victory. On Apr. 13, 2010, the Ospreys scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and then used back-to-back RBI singles by Justin Preckajlo (2009-10) and David Eldredge (2009-10) in the bottom of the 11th inning to win 5-4 for the 900th victory in North Florida baseball history.
Against USF last year, each team won on its respective field. USF claimed a 10-7 victory over the Ospreys on Mar. 23, 2010, with UNF taking down the Bulls 15-9 on May 12, 2010 at Harmon Stadium.
North Florida enters the week 2-3 (.400) against schools from the state of Florida this season. UNF lost a three-game series to Florida Gulf Coast, 2-1, and split a two-game set with FIU.
Scouting the Opposition:
Bethune-Cookman made it almost look effortless as they played a nearly complete game to dispatch Florida A&M for the sweep in the MEAC Opening series, topping the Rattlers 16-6 in seven innings. B-CU scored at least one run in every inning, and held FAMU without a run until the Rattlers put up a final charge in the seventh.
Jumping out to an early three-run lead, a five run third inning by West Virginia proved to be to much for the University of South Florida baseball team to overcome. The Bulls couldn't rally past WVU in the rubber match of a three-game set Sunday afternoon at the USF Baseball Stadium, falling 7-6.
