CLEARWATER, Fla. – Sophomore Jackie Reese jacked her third deep ball of the season as the North Florida softball team (15-12) defeated UT-Chattanooga (19-7), 4-0, wrapping up play at the USF “The Game” Tournament on Sunday at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.
The shutout victory over the Lady Mocs marks the sixth time this season the Ospreys have blanked its opponent. Freshman Cortney Radke hurled her fifth complete-game shutout of the year, allowing just three hits while striking out 11 batters and walking two.
The Ospreys scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning when freshman Brittany Hendrix, on third base, crossed the plate after a wild throw from the catcher down to third.
In the fifth inning, North Florida got plenty of insurance, plating three more runs to take a 4-0 lead. Reese knocked her third homerun of the year in the frame, plating two runs on the deep ball over the left center wall.
Up next, North Florida welcomes Georgia Southern to Jacksonville for a doubleheader contest on Wednesday, March 23. The first pitch of game one is slated for 4 p.m. (ET).
