Game One Box Score ::: Game Two Box Score
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hits were hard to come by for the North Florida softball team (15-14) on Wednesday as the Ospreys dropped two games to Georgia Southern (15-17) at the UNF Softball Complex, both by a score of 5-0.
North Florida was able to manage just three hits in the two games, while Georgia Southern combined for 20 on the day.
Up next, the Ospreys open conference play as the squad hosts Kennesaw State on Friday for a doubleheader slated to begin at 4 p.m.
GAME ONE
Georgia Southern took in game one, 5-0, ending an eight game skid to the Ospreys dating back to 2006.
North Florida's junior pitcher Chie Someya (2-3) picked up the loss in a complete game effort, allowing five runs – three earned – while striking out three and walking two.
Someya held the Eagles scoreless until the third inning when Georgia Southern plated two runs and never looked back. The Eagles crossed the plate three more times, once in the fourth and twice again in the fifth, to put the game away.
North Florida attempted a late rally in the seventh, ending a no-hitter in the first at-bat after senior Caroline Torre singled to right field. Freshman Brittany Hendrix singled up the middle and advanced to second on a fielding error by the centerfielder. With runners in scoring position, the game ended after Torre was picked off at third by the catcher.
The Eagles' Allie Miles (6-6) picked up the complete-game win, allowing no runs and fanning nine Osprey batters.
GAME TWO
In game two, Georgia Southern again took control of the game early, scoring two runs in the opening top half of the first inning.
Sarah Purvis (1-1) of the Eagles' worked five innings, allowing the lone Osprey hit in the game, to pick up her first win of the year for Georgia Southern.
The Ospreys only hit came from the bat of freshman Mariah Reynolds in the second inning. However, the pinch runner in for Reynolds would be stranded throughout the frame.
The Eagles' added a run in the fourth and two more in the seventh to make the score 5-0, which would turn out to be the final.
Junior Richelle Raley (0-3) was tagged with the loss after pitching her first complete game of the year, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits.
