Game One Box Score ::: Game Two Box Score
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Freshman pitcher Cortney Radke hurled her first career no-hitter, and the 25th in program history, as the North Florida softball team (8-9) swept its doubleheader against Florida A&M in the home opener on Wednesday at the UNF Softball Complex. The Ospreys blanked the Rattlers in back-to-back games, marking the first time the program has shutout its opponent in consecutive games since March 7, 2007 (Georgia Southern).
In addition, the two victories gave head coach Marcie Hickey her 149th and 150th wins of her career as a head coach. Hickey has won 58 of those games while at the helm of the North Florida program.
The Ospreys have nearly a week off before returning to the diamond on March 8 as the squad hosts Delaware State in a single game. The first pitch of the match is set for 7 p.m. (ET).
GAME ONE
North Florida claimed game one with a score of 3-0 behind freshman hurler Cortney Radke (6-7) and her first career no-hitter. Radke fanned 14 batters in the seven-inning outing, while walking just one.
Radke's no-hitter marks the 25th in program history and first since Devyn Findley accomplished the feat on March 14, 2009 against Charleston Southern.
The Ospreys first scored in the bottom of the third inning on a double by freshman Mariah Reynolds, plating the runner that was on second already. The second run, in the fifth, was unearned after the North Florida runner scored from third on a throwing error by the second baseman, which sailed over the first baseman's head into right field.
Junior Kelly Dill smacked her second homerun of the season in the sixth inning to give North Florida some breathing room with just one inning to play. Dill's bomb sailed into left center as the outfielders could only watch with no play on the ball.
Florida A&M's Whitney Robinson (5-4) was tagged with the loss after working six innings, while allowing three runs – two earned – on five hits, three walks and three strikeouts.
GAME TWO
In the second game, North Florida carried over the momentum from game one and once again blanked the Rattlers, 2-0. Junior pitcher Chie Someya (2-1) earned the win, pitching a complete game shutout – the first of her career – while not allowing a single run and walking just one on five hits and three strikeouts.
The Ospreys scored the only two runs of the game in the third inning. Sophomore Stephanie McAdam singled to start off the frame and then stole second easily. Fellow classmate Jackie Reese then doubled to left center, scoring McAdam. A single would move Reese over to third and freshman Lauren Pollack followed with a sacrifice fly to left field, plating Reese from third.
McAdam was 2-for-2 in the game with one run scored.
The Rattlers' hurler Jennifer Lindsey (3-3) picked up the loss, pitching six innings and allowing both runs – both earned – on five hits while striking five and walking one.
