JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team defeated Atlantic Sun Conference opponent Kennesaw State, 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.
UNF (9-3, 4-1 A-Sun) swept the doubles matches to secure the point and take a 1-0 early lead in the match. Aline Berkenbrock and Simona Weymar teamed up for a win over Vera Shkundina and Iesha Holton in the No. 1 with a score of 8-2.
In the No. 2 doubles, Melanie Aguirre and Danielle Day paired up to defeat the KSU duo of Alexandra Apostu and Morgan Carney, 8-4.
Victoria Krook and Melinda Doak shut-out the Owls' Agatha Palider and Therese Lagerkvist in the No. 3 doubles match with an 8-0 score.
In singles play, Day secured a 6-1, 6-4 win over Apostu in the No. 2 match while Krook defeated Holton, 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3.
Aguirre and Weymar secured points in the No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches, respectively. Aguirre defeated Palider, 6-3, 6-2 and Weymar claimed a 6-1, 7-5 win over Lagerkvist.
UNF will return to the court on March 25-26 in Nashville, Tenn. when the Ospreys face Lipscomb and Belmont in A-Sun action.
