
Women’s Tennis Set for A-Sun Road Matches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team takes to the road for a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference matches beginning with USC Upstate on Friday, March 11 before facing Campbell on Saturday, March 12. Both matches are set for 10 a.m. start times.
UNF (5-2, 1-0 A-Sun) downed Penn, 5-2 in the team's last outing. The Ospreys claimed the doubles point early to get off to a strong start. UNF continued its run into singles play, winning four of the six matches. Danielle Day claimed a win at No. 2 while Victoria Krook secured a point at No. 3. Melanie Aguirre and Simona Weymar posted wins at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Day has posted a 6-1 record this season in singles' matches after starting the season at No. 1 where she went 3-1. She has moved to the No. 2 (3-0) since the return of Aline Berkenbrock. Berkenbrock was out early in the season with an injury, but has notched a 2-1 mark at the No. 1 since her return. Weymar has notched a 6-1 singles record while Krook is 3-3. Aguirre is 3-4 this season in singles matches, but has teamed up with Day in doubles play and has notched a 5-2 record. Melinda Doak has a 2-4 singles' tally this season.
Upstate (0-9, 0-2 A-Sun) fell to Florida Gulf Coast, 6-1 in the team's last match. The Spartans' No. 2, Karen Martinez picked up the lone point for Upstate. Last season, the Ospreys swept the Spartans, 7-0 in Jacksonville. The Spartans finished the 2010 season ranked fourth in the A-Sun.
The Camels (5-4, 2-0 A-Sun) defeated Stetson, 4-3 the last time out. Campbell got points in the No. 1, 2 3 and 4 singles matches as Lisa Sutton, Karolina Chernaya, Borislava Nikolova and Heather Robinson claimed wins in their respective matches.
Sutton returns for Campbell this season after picking up first team all-conference honors in 2010. Nikolova was an all-freshman team selection in 2009. The Camels finished last season ranked fifth in the conference. UNF claimed a 7-0 win over CU last season.
Following the road swing, the Ospreys will return to the UNF Tennis Complex to host a trio of matches, beginning with Buffalo on Wednesday, March 16.
