
Women’s Basketball Set for Key Road Contest

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team will take to the road to wrap up the regular season beginning with Stetson on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. at the Edmunds Center in DeLand, Fla.
UNF and Stetson are currently tied for fourth in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings and both teams are in position to claim the No. 2 seed in the upcoming General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, March 2-5 in Macon, Ga.
UNF (13-14, 11-7 A-Sun) is coming off a 66-57 win over Kennesaw State on Sunday. Sophomore Taylor Smith led the Ospreys with 14 points while junior Brittany Kirland added 10. Sophomore Larkira Jones grabbed 14 rebounds. Jones averaged a double-double on the weekend with 12 points and 15 rebounds per game to be named the A-Sun Player of the Week,
Kirkland leads UNF on the season, averaging 14.4 points per game. Smith is adding 8.6 points per game, but has upped her average in conference play to 9.1 points per game. Junior Jadhken Kerr is tallying 7.5 points and leads the team in three pointers per game. Senior Juliemay Syquio is dishing out 3.7 assists per game. Jones is notching 9.5 rebounds per game and tallying a conference leading, 2.2 blocks per game.
The Hatters (15-12, 11-7 A-Sun) fell to league-leading Florida Gulf Coast, 64-59 on Monday. Leading Stetson this season is Victoria McGowan with 14.7 points while handing out 4.48 assists per game. Tierra Brown is adding 13.0 points while Jessica Conner is tallying 11.1 per game. Natasha Graboski is grabbing 6.8 rebounds per game to lead the Hatters.
UNF leads the all-time series at 6-5, but the Hatters won the last meeting, 75-62 at UNF Arena. Junior Kim Baker led the Ospreys with 14 points while Kirkland and Syquio added 13 and 10, respectively. The Hatters were paced by McGowan with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Graboski added 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Ospreys will remain on the road to wrap-up the regular season at league-leading Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, Feb. 26 in Fort Myers, Fla.
