
UNF Falters at Stetson, 57-51

DeLAND, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team fell to Stetson, 57-51 on Thursday evening in Atlantic Sun Conference action at the Edmunds Center in DeLand, Fla.
Sophomore Taylor Smith knocked down a career-high 18 points for the Ospreys (13-15, 11-8 A-Sun) while fellow sophomore Larkira Jones tallied 14 points and grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds. Jones also tallied five blocks on the game. Senior Juliemay Syquio dished out seven assists and posted three steals.
The Hatters (16-12, 12-7 A-Sun) were led by Natasha Graboski with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Tierra Brown added 18 points in the game and handed out nine assists.
The Ospreys came out firing, getting out to an 18-2 lead after five minutes of play. UNF extended its lead to 17 over the next six minutes and took a 24-7 lead with 9:09 on the clock. Stetson responded with a 16-6 run over the final minutes of the half as UNF took a 30-24 lead into the break.
Stetson continued its run into the second half to go up by two, 32-30 at 17:32. The two teams traded baskets with seven lead changes and five ties. UNF and Stetson were last tied at 47 with just over eight minutes left in the game. The Hatters closed out the game with a 10-2 run to secure the win.
UNF shot 37.5 percent (24-of-64) from the field while Stetson connected on 40.7 percent (24-of-59). Both teams struggled from behind the arc with both only hitting one three pointer. The Ospreys went to the line just three times, hitting 66.7 percent (2-of-3) while the Hatters shot 8-of-17 (41.7 percent).
The Ospreys dominated on the boards, grabbing 46 to Stetson's 33. Stetson forced 19 UNF turnovers while just giving the ball up 10 times.
UNF will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 26 in a 5:15 p.m. game at Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Fla.
