JACKSONVILLE -- The North Florida basketball team broke open a tight game with an explosive second half performance earning a 69-52 victory Wednesday night over Wright State at UNF Arena.
With the win, UNF (2-4) snapped a three-game skid and remained undefeated at home this season while Wright State slipped to 2-3 on the year.
Jerron Granberry scored 19 points to lead the Ospreys while Travis Wallace added 11 in the victory. Jimmy Williams finished with seven rebounds and four assists for UNF.
Wright State was led by 15 points from Julius Mays.
The Ospreys started slowly as WSU scored six of the first seven points for a 6-1 lead. UNF rallied with a 10-0 run to take its first lead capped by the first of Granberry's four three-pointers on the night.
Play went back-and-forth over the next several minutes of play as both teams took turns with lead. Wright State pushed back in front by six, 28-22, with 3:51 left in the first half but the Ospreys turned up their defense holding the Raiders scoreless the rest of the way while scoring six points of their own to earn a 28-28 tie at halftime.
UNF grabbed the momentum scoring the first seven points after the break and then earned its first double-digit advantage, 43-33, with 13:21 left to play. Wright State battled back pulling to within three with nine minutes remaining, but the Ospreys answered with nine straight points to regain control.
The Ospreys maintained a double figure lead the rest of the way using a steady defensive effort to keep the Raiders in check.
For the game, UNF held WSU to 37 percent shooting from the floor including a sluggish 29 percent performance in the second half. The Ospreys shot a season-best 57 percent from the field highlighted by a smoldering 58.6 percent clip in the closing half.
UNF posted a 35-24 rebounding advantage and recorded a season high six blocked shots. The 69 points also marked a season best performance for the Ospreys.
North Florida continues its four-game home stand Friday against Jackson State at 7 p.m. in UNF Arena.
