
Swimming/Diving Closes Out Day 1 of Highlander Invite

RADFORD, Va. – The University of North Florida swimming and diving team concluded day one of the Highlander Invitational in fourth place at the Dedmon Center on the campus of Radford University.
North Florida finished the day with 162 points, just 19 points behind Georgia Southern (181). Liberty (234) claimed the top spot after the first day of competition, while Campbell (196) finished the day in second. Following UNF was St. Francis (146), Youngstown State (105), Mount Saint Mary's (74), tournament host Radford (57), Millersville (44) and North Carolina A&T (4).
The Ospreys opened the day with the 200-yard freestyle relay. The foursome of Rebeca Bernard, Maria Bernard, Christine Kemp and Natalie McCallum posted a time of 1:40.27 to finish as UNF's top relay team. Ellice Mae Sanchez, Lissa Janowicz, Kristina Alexiou and Bridget Woods also competed in the event for the Ospreys.
Kemp was the top finisher for North Florida in the 500 free. The freshman recorded a time of 5:19.15 in the event finals. In the preliminary of the event, freshman Allison Troia posted a season-best time of 5:27.64 in the event.
McCallum notched a third place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:09.01 – a season-best time. Woods finished just out of medal contention with a fifth place finish, posting a time of 2:09.92. Junior Sara Evans finished in the top eight with a seventh place time of 2:10.43. In the preliminaries of the 200 IM, Woods, McCallum and Evans finished second, third and fifth, respectively.
In the 1-meter diving competition, junior Julia Moomaw claimed second place with a score of 211.90, while freshman Monica Rice earned fifth place with a combined score of 199.85.
The Ospreys' 400 medley relay team of Sanchez, Woods, McCallum and Kemp earned third place honors with a time of 3:59.22. Alexiou, Evans, Janowicz and R. Bernard were seconds off the pace with a time of 4:03.74 to close out the first day of competition.
