JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The SunTrust River City Rumble is once again the topic for discussion in this season's battle between the University of North Florida and Jacksonville in an Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. at the UNF Softball Complex.
The Ospreys come into the Tuesday's matchup bruised after being swept by Lipscomb, 3-0 and then 14-1, dismantling their seven game winning streak. Even though the Ospreys let the Bison run through Jacksonville, going 4-0 against Jacksonville and North Florida, UNF is still in second in the conference.
During conference, play senior Airen Payne is on top of North Florida's leader board with her .389 batting average and five RBI. Junior Caroline Torre (.389 BA/ .524 SLG /.480 OBP) and sophomore Shaina Dent (.357 BA/ .571 SLG/ .357 OBP) have remained with Payne above the .300 mark. Dent in her new found role as a hitter has helped the Ospreys hitting in the sixth hole, maintaining a .357 in conference play.
As of right now the Ospreys sit tied for second in the conference with USC Upstate with a 5-3 conference record. Jacksonville (22-14, A-Sun 1-5) sits last in the A-Sun after being swept by Florida Gulf Coast and Lipscomb and splitting with Belmont.
Outfielder Kayla Ouellet leads the Dolphins with a .383 BA, producing an on-base percentage of .422. Of the crosstown rivals, Ouellet will have to be watched on the base paths, swiping 14 out 17 on the year.
In the power rankings, Jacksonville has developed freshman Olivia Kline into a power bat, leading her team with her six home runs, which is tied for seventh in the conference.
Last season, the Ospreys swept JU, downing their rival's on their own field, 4-0, behind a shutout performance from Devyn Findley and a 3-2 win in the nightcap. The sweep was the fourth win in a row against the Dolphins.
For seniors Findley and Kara Rutenbar's four year career as an Osprey they have enjoyed an 8-1 record over the Dolphins, doing their part in keeping the rivalry one-sided in North Florida's favor.
