Second-Place Ospreys Battle Camels

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida softball team hits the road after playing its last 10 games at home. The Ospreys will travel to Buies Creek, N.C. to play Campbell in a doubleheader on Friday, April 16, at 4 p.m.

From April 2-10, the Ospreys (23-22, 9-5 A-Sun) enjoyed their homestand going 6-4, including sweeps over Belmont and East Tennessee State. Along with bringing their overall record past the .500 mark, UNF sits second in the conference behind Lipscomb.

Lipscomb (33-9, 10-2 A-Sun) remained perfect through their trip of Jacksonville but picked up their first losses of the season in conference, spilting this past weekend to Mercer and Kennesaw State. The Bison will play Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast this weekend.

The Ospreys scored three walk-off wins in their last five games, giving the Ospreys some momentum entering the weekend with a three-game winning streak.

In the past three games, the Ospreys' offense has resurfaced producing 18 runs with a .319 batting average with two home runs.

In the last three games, sophomore Ariana Godwin, hitting in the bottom half of the lineup, scored four times with a .667 batting average upping her on-base percentage to .750. Sophomore Amanda Moseley has a .500 BA while driving in two RBI after her walk-off home run against ETSU, crossing the plate four times. Junior Caroline Torre, senior Kara Rutenbar and sophomore Alyson Bailey all have three RBI and a batting average above .300.

Senior Devyn Findley (17-12) has an ERA of 1.94 and is third in the conference in strikeouts (226) and wins (17). Against crosstown rival Jacksonville, Findley recorded 15 strikeouts in a game, surpassing her career record of strikeouts in a game. Sophomore Shaina Dent and Findley combined for 32 strikeouts in the doubleheader against the Dolphins.

Campbell (15-25-1, 2-6A-Sun), who are near the bottom of the conference, have two players hitting above .300 with Sarah Forgacs (.361/ 21/ 5, BA/ Runs/ RBI) and Lauren Stephan (.304/ 16/ 26). Stephan leads the Camels with seven home runs and a .530 slugging percentage. Taylor McGee is second on the home run list with five.

In the circle, both Christina Melton and Brittany Stanley share six wins on the season. Melton's 2.59 ERA is the lowest on the team and she has the most K's with 73. The Camel's pitching staff combined has a 3.38 ERA and has allowed 174 compared to UNF's 143.
