
UNF to Play Pair of Midweek Games

UNF will face Georgia Southern and UCF
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team will play a pair of midweek games. First up, the Ospreys host Georgia Southern on Tuesday, March 2, at 6:30 p.m. at Harmon Stadium. On Wednesday, March 3, UNF travels to Orlando, Fla. for a game against in-state rival UCF at 7 p.m.
North Florida is currently 1-5 on the season after dropping three games at the South Alabama Classic over the weekend. After falling to No. 27 Wichita State, 14-4, the Ospreys lost a pair of close games against South Alabama (L, 4-2) and Eastern Michigan (L, 10-8).
Offensively, North Florida is led by senior David Eldredge. He is batting .450 on the season, going 9-for-20 with five runs score, two doubles, two RBI and four walks. Junior Andrew Hannon and sophomore Andrew Karmeris are each batting .409 on the season (9-for-22). Hannon leads the team with three doubles and five RBI, while Karmeris is tied with junior Robbie Collier for the team lead in runs scored with six.
The Ospreys will start redshirt freshman Trey Ferrano against Georgia Southern, while senior Jon Turner is slated to start against UCF. Ferrano is 0-0 with a 0.00 earned run average, tossing a scoreless inning against Richmond on Saturday, Feb. 20. Turner got the start against the Spiders, but only pitched 0.2 innings.
Georgia Southern starts the week with a 3-4 record, but plays on Monday night against Holy Cross. The Eagles opened the season by dropping a three-game series 2-1 with Tennessee Tech. GSU were then swept in a two-game midweek series with No. 3 Georgia Tech. Heading into their game on Monday night, the Eagles are on a two-game winning streak, defeating Holy Cross in a pair of games by a combined total of 32-17.
UCF enters the week 6-1 overall and are scheduled to play Duquesne on Tuesday, March 2 before hosting the Ospreys on Wednesday, March 3. The Golden Knight's Chris Taladay's performance in the three-game series against Siena over the weekend helped the UCF baseball team to a series win. Taladay had his first collegiate homer on Friday night which resulted in two more runs and secured the team's lead over Siena. Taladay leads the team with a .500 batting average and fell just one double shy of tying the school record with three doubles in a 3-for-4 game with three runs scored on Sunday afternoon. The designated hitter/catcher also had a hit and a run in the team's game at Florida last week and is 9-for-18 with six runs, six RBI, four doubles, one homer and a stolen base for the 2010 season.
