
UNF Women’s Tennis to Host S.C. State

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team will host South Carolina State on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. at the UNF Tennis Complex.
The Ospreys (2-0) are coming off a pair of wins during their opening weekend. UNF defeated UTEP, 6-0 on Saturday, Jan. 30 and followed that up with a 7-0 win over Iowa State on Sunday, Jan. 31.
UNF picked up wins in all of its singles matches last weekend with sophomore Aline Berkenbrock picking up a pair of wins in the No. 1. Senior Raquel Castro won both of her matches in the No. 2 while sophomore transfer Danielle Day grabbed a pair of wins in the No. 3. Junior Victoria Krook won the No. 4 singles matches while freshman Melanie Aguirre and junior Lauren Holton won their matches in the No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
The Ospreys did not play doubles against UTEP, but picked up a pair of wins in doubles action against Iowa State to win the point. Berkenbrock and Castro teamed up to win in the No. 1 while Day and Holton picked up a win in the No. 2.
South Carolina State (1-0) defeated Wofford, 7-0 in its first match of the spring season. The Bulldogs were picked to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference southern division preseason poll.
The Bulldogs won the MEAC Championship in 2009 and picked up their fifth consecutive conference title. S.C. State returns MEAC Rookie of the Year, Aniko Kiss. S.C. State's Daria Sekrina was recently named the MEAC Rookie of Week while Maria Craciun earned Tennis Athlete of the Week.
Following this weekend's home contests, the Ospreys will take to the road for a Friday, Feb. 12 match at South Alabama and a Sunday, Feb. 14 match at Troy.
