
Women’s Basketball to Host Stetson and FGCU

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team is set to host Atlantic Sun opponents Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast. The Ospreys will face the Hatters on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, UNF plays Florida Gulf Coast in a 4:30 p.m. game. Both games are set for UNF Arena and will be doubleheaders with the men's team.

The Ospreys (7-16, 4-10 A-Sun) are coming off a weekend in which they split results. UNF defeated Lipscomb, 70-48 on Saturday, Feb. 6 and fell to Belmont, 77-68 on Monday, Feb. 8.
Against the Bison, UNF knocked down 10 three pointers and freshman forward Jadhken Kerr set a career-high with five threes as she recorded 17 points. Sophomore guard Brittany Kirkland led with a game-high 22 points. In Monday's game, Belmont connected on 12 three pointers, shooting 52.2 percent from outside the arc. Kirkland had 20 points for the Ospreys.
Kirkland leads the team on the season with 15 points per game. Kerr is adding 8.3 points per game and junior guard Juliemay Syquio is adding eight points per game while notching 3.74 assists per game. Senior forward Arlande Cherizol is pulling down 8.1 rebounds per game.
Stetson (5-19, 5-10 A-Sun) is led by Tierra Brown with 9.6 points per game. Brown is averaging 11 points per game in A-Sun play. Jessica Conner is adding 9.4 points per game, but has upped her average to 12 points per game in league play. Conner is averaging a team best 7.8 rebounds per game.
UNF holds the 5-4 all-time lead over Stetson including an earlier meeting this season in DeLand, Fla. UNF fell behind 31-14 at halftime, but put together an impressive second half rally that fell just short as the Hatters held on to win 58-56. The Ospreys outscored the Hatters 42-27 in the second half and improved their shooting percentage from 18.5 percent in the first half to 47.4 percent in the second. Kirkland notched 12 points for the Ospreys while Brown had 15 for the Hatters.
Florida Gulf Coast (19-4, 14-1 A-Sun) leads the Atlantic Sun standings just past the midway point of the season. The Eagles are led by three players averaging double-digits. Adrienne McNally leads the way with 13 points per game. Chelsea Lyles is adding 12.6 points per game, while Shannon Murphy is tallying 11.6 points per game. Courtney Chihil is pulling down 5.8 rebounds per game.
The Eagles hold the 4-1 lead over the Ospreys in the all-time series including a 58-47 win earlier in the season in Fort Myers, Fla. Cherizol had eight points and nine rebounds for UNF while senior center Shennette Sheffield along with sophomore guard Kim Baker, junior guard DeAdria Hilliard and Kerr added six points each. Murphy had 17 points for the Eagles.
Single-game tickets for women's basketball games are $10 for adults and $8 for youth 17-and-under and senior citizens 55-and-older. One ticket will admit you to both the women's games and the men's games on those days. Children 2-and-under and any current UNF student with a valid Osprey1 Card are admitted free. Student guest passes for those events are $5 and limited to one per student.
