
Ospreys Back in Action, Hosting Long Island

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team will be back on the court following the holiday break on Friday, Dec. 31, hosting Long Island in a 2 p.m. contest at UNF Arena.
UNF (2-8) was last on the court in the 2010 Comfort Inn Osprey Holiday Classic where the team split on the weekend, defeating Troy, 68-52 on the first day before falling 60-57 to Bethune-Cookman during the second day of action. Junior Brittany Kirkland and sophomore Taylor Smith were named to the All-Tournament team.
Kirkland leads the team on the season with 15.6 points per game. Senior Juliemay Syquio is adding 8.4 points per game and handing out 3.4 assists per game. Smith is notching 8.0 points per game. Sophomore Larkira Jones is grabbing a team-best 6.6 rebounds per game.
The Blackbirds (7-4) dropped UNF's crosstown rival Jacksonville, 69-59 on Thursday. Leading Long Island this season is Kiara Evans with 13.3 points per game. Ashley Palmer is adding 12.0 points and 9.2 rebounds per game while Chelsi Johnson is putting up 10.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
This is the first meeting between UNF and Long Island.
Following Friday's game, the Ospreys will be back in action on January 5 at Campbell at 5:15 p.m. The game begins a three game Atlantic Sun road swing for the Ospreys.
