UNF tries to keep winning ways going in Nashville
By: Shawn LaFata
After wrapping up a homestand that saw the Lady Ospreys go 4-2 and defeat a pair of ranked opponents, the University of North Florida softball team takes to the road this weekend when it heads to Nashville for a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheaders.
UNF (17-17, 4-2 A-Sun) will square off with Lipscomb on Friday afternoon before traveling down the road to take on Belmont Saturday.
The Lady Ospreys have hit their stride as of late thanks to an offense that has scored 71 runs during a stretch that has seen UNF go 11-3. UNF's pitching has also been solid over that 14-game stretch, led by Devyn Findley who is 7-2 with a 1.69 ERA.
UNF finished 2-2 during its last trip to Nashville, splitting doubleheaders with both Lipscomb and Belmont. The Lady Ospreys swept a doubleheader from Belmont at home last season while splitting two games with Lipscomb.
Notables: Due to rain that is expected to hit the Nashville area on Friday, the Lipscomb doubleheader has been pushed forward to 2 p.m. EST … Ashley Battaglia was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week this week after hitting .571 last week … Battaglia has placed her name on the UNF top-10 list for doubles in a season and ranks second in the Atlantic Sun with 15 doubles this season … Battaglia's .376 batting average also has her ranked seventh in the conference in hitting … Devyn Findley leads the conference with 168 strikeouts … with the exception of her start earlier this week against Florida State in which she was touched for six earned runs, Findley has only allowed four earned runs in her last 10 appearances … UNF is 4-4 on the road this season.
