UNF falls twice at Lipscomb
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of North Florida softball team did not get off to the start it was looking for on its four-game road trip through Nashville after losing a pair of conference games to Lipscomb.
UNF (17-19, 4-4 A-Sun) did not score a run on the afternoon, losing the first game 1-0 before falling 2-0 in the nightcap. The Lady Ospreys had eight hits on the day and left six runners in scoring position.
Devyn Findley (8-12) worked six innings in the opening game and surrendered only five hits while striking out eight. She was touched for the lone run of the game when Courtney Billington drove home a run with an infield single in the bottom of the fifth inning.
UNF threatened in the top of the first when Arianna Godwin and Ashley Battaglia reached on back-to-back singles. Whitney Kiihnl, however, worked her way out of the jam and did not allow another baserunner until the fourth inning. The Lady Ospreys' final threat of the game came following a Battaglia double in the sixth that put a pair of runners on with one out. Kiihnl (9-2) found her way out of that situation as well before closing the door for the Bisons (22-6, 2-0 A-Sun) in the seventh inning.
Lipscomb got its offense started in the top of the first of game two, scoring a pair of runs on pitcher Christen Campbell's double off of UNF starter Shaina Dent (8-5).
UNF put runners on base in every inning except the first and third innings but could not capitalize against
