UNF faces Campbell in Buies Creek this weekend
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Fresh off an exciting week that included an upset win in front of a record-breaking crowd at home, the University of North Florida baseball team will try to extend its two-game Atlantic Sun Conference win streak this weekend against Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C.
The Ospreys will kick off the three-game series at 3 p.m. on Friday and wrap it up with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. Friday's game was originally scheduled for a 4 p.m. start but was moved up to avoid on-coming rain. UNF took two of three from the Camels last season in Jacksonville after sweeping Campbell in Buies Creek in 2007.
UNF took down No. 23 Florida, 3-0, on Tuesday night at Harmon Stadium in front of a record 3,194 fans but dropped a close 5-3 decision to the Gators on Wednesday in Gainesville. Senior Brian Wilson knocked in the winning run in Tuesday's triumph, while Preston Hale had a two-run double. Both hits were in the bottom of the eighth after seven and a half scoreless innings.
The Ospreys had an inspired charge toward the end of Wednesday night's game against the Gators with a two-run single from junior TJ Thompson, who finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double.
Before the melee with Florida, the Ospreys took two of three from Belmont last weekend, sweeping the doubleheader last Saturday. UNF hit .333 as a team and collected seven extra-base hits while recording a 3.33 team ERA.
Campbell dropped two of three from East Tennessee State last weekend in conference action and fell 10-9 to No. 19 East Carolina on Tuesday. The Camels have three batters hitting better than .400 and are led by Ryan Hamme, who is hitting .451 with 28 RBIs, 37 runs scored and 13 doubles.
