UNF hosts Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday and Davidson on Sunday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The road was not friendly to the University of North Florida women's tennis team last weekend, but the Lady Ospreys return to the UNF Tennis Complex, where they have not dropped a match this season, for two matches this week.
Schedule
UNF (3-0) vs. Bethune-Cookman (0-4) – Wednesday, Feb. 25 – 2 p.m.
UNF vs. Davidson (3-3) – Sunday, March 1 – 11 a.m.
Inside the Matchups
Bethune-Cookman is still seeking its first win of the season and has fallen victim to three Atlantic Sun Conference teams so far this season. Jacksonville handed the Wildcats a 5-2 season-opening loss at Bethune-Cookman, and the Wildcats suffered road losses to Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast within the last five days.
In its last two outings, Davidson has been on the wrong end of a pair of 7-0 decisions – both to teams ranked in the top 50. The Wildcats compiled a three-match home winning streak after dropping their home opener to Winthrop. No. 41 Virginia Tech snapped the streak before No. 11 North Carolina handed Davidson its first losing streak of the season. The Wildcats are 0-2 on the road this season and host East Carolina Friday before making their way to UNF.
Looking Back
The Lady Ospreys dropped season matches number one and two over the weekend during their stay in Birmingham, Ala. UAB dealt UNF its first loss of the season by a score of 4-3, and Samford edged the Lady Ospreys by the same score a day later.
UNF swept its first weekend of home action, scoring wins against Missouri-Kansas City and Florida A&M on Feb. 5 and 7, respectively.
Who's Hot
With a straight-set win at the No. 6 singles position and a doubles win against Samford, sophomore Victoria Krook held on to her spotless record this season. She has notched a 3-0 record in the sixth slot and was a 6-2, 6-1 winner in her only showing in the fifth position against Florida A&M. Teaming with fellow sophomore Lauren Holton, she boasts a 5-0 mark in doubles play – all at the No. 3 position.
Did you hear?
Head coach Rodrigo Puebla on being back at home: “We are still 3-0 at home, and it is important for us to continue to play well on our own courts.”
Puebla on the match against Bethune-Cookman: “Our mentality needs to be se on playing aggressively and with consistency. It will be a tough match if we don't play with intensity early on in doubles and singles.”
Puebla on the match against Davidson: “Suffering two 4-3 losses is tough, but the girls have had a couple of days of good practice. Hopefully we can regain some confidence against Bethune-Cookman and be ready to battle Davidson on Sunday.
