UNF won 7-0 on its way to its third home win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Five Lady Ospreys rolled to straight-set wins in singles play Wednesday when the University of North Florida women's tennis team sprinted past Bethune-Cookman 7-0 at the UNF Tennis Complex to keep a hold on its unbeaten home record.

"We came out strong in doubles today, and that really set the tone for the match," UNF head coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "Our doubles play is beginning to pick up, and we are getting to a level we like."

Sophomores Victoria Krook and Lauren Holton eased to UNF's first point of the match by notching an 8-0 No. 3 doubles win. The Lady Ospreys took an 8-2 win at the top doubles spot and posted an 8-6 win in the second position.

"The same energy we had in doubles play carried over into singles," Puebla said. "Lauren (Holton) is finally playing her game and is showing a lot of improvement. Vicky (Krook) has also really stepped up as of late and is playing more consistently."

Holton soared over Jeneice Ward to a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 5 position while Krook was a 6-1, 6-0 winner in the sixth position by a score of 6-1, 6-0 against Andrea Paez.

Freshman Aline Berkenbrock rolled 6-1, 6-1 in the top singles position to highlight UNF's straight-set wins in the first three singles slots.

Senior Ina Durcakova played the day's most competitive match but still came out on top. She took the first set 6-1 from Valeisha Kendrick in No. 4 singles before Kendrick captured the second set 7-5. Durcakova regrouped and finished the match with a 10-3 win in the supertiebreaker.

"We played much better today but have a really tough match ahead of us on Sunday," Puebla said. "A win against Davidson would be a big boost for the team in terms of confidence and showing how we are capable of playing."

The Lady Ospreys take on Davidson at 11 a.m. Sunday at the UNF Tennis Complex.
