Lady Ospreys fall to James Madison and Virginia

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The offensive woes continued for the University of North Florida softball team on day two of the Gamecock Invitational. UNF scored only one unearned run on the day and mustered five hits in two games in losses to James Madison and Virginia.

UNF (4-13) opened the day with a 4-1 loss to James Madison before being shutout 1-0 by Virginia. The Lady Ospreys left eight runners in scoring position over the two-game stretch in falling to 2-11 in tournament play this season.

Amanda Moseley had a hit in both games to lead the UNF offense, while Shaina Dent pitched six innings of three-hit ball against Virginia and struck out seven.

James Madison got off to an early start against the Lady Ospreys, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the third before taking a 4-0 lead with a run in the sixth. UNF finally got on the board in the seventh inning when Moseley reached on a one-out double and came around to score on an outfield error one batter later.

Devyn Findley (0-8) took the loss, giving up four earned runs on six hits in six innings of work.

Virginia's only run off of Dent (4-5) came in the bottom of the fifth inning and would be all the Cavaliers would need.

Moseley and Ariana Godwin had UNF's only two hits against the Cavaliers.

The Lady Ospreys will close out the Gamecock Invitational with a game against Tennessee-Chattanooga Sunday at 3 p.m.
