LADY OSPREY SOFTBALL WEEKLY

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida softball team will return to playing grounds it has already seen once this year when it makes the short trip to Orlando, Fla., for the UCF Early Bird Tournament Friday through Sunday before hosting Albany for a doubleheader on Wednesday.

The Lady Ospreys (2-5) took on UCF in a doubleheader earlier this week, splitting the games with the Knights. UNF fell 2-1 in the opener before rallying with four runs in the fifth inning to win the nightcap 7-5.

UNF will take on plenty of recognizable names this weekend, battling perennial SEC power Tennessee, which comes into this week ranked 11^th in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, along with South Carolina and Villanova.

Matchups with Western Carolina and Bowling Green are also on tap for the Lady Ospreys this weekend.

The Lady Ospreys will get a couple days rest after returning from UCF to prepare for their home opener on Wednesday against Albany at 4 p.m.

Notables: This is the second of five tournaments UNF will play this season … the Lady Ospreys opened their season at South Florida's tournament last weekend, going 1-4 in that event … UNF head coach Marcie Hickey is five wins away from her 100^th career victory … freshman Allyson Bailey leads the Atlantic Sun with nine hits, while Kara Rutenbar and Ashley Battaglia are tied for the league lead with three doubles … all three of Battaglia's doubles came in the nightcap against UCF … she also added a triple to her performance and five hits overall against the Knights.

Quoting Coach Hickey: “We're headed into another competitive tournament weekend where we lead off first thing with No. 11 Tennessee. We'll have to play well to win but we're playing more confidently now and hitting the ball hard against very good teams. If we can play our game consistently, we should have a successful weekend.”
