Lady Ospreys shut out twice at UCF tournament

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of North Florida softball team gave up only four runs in two games but walked away from the opening day of the UCF Early Bird Tournament falling to No. 11 Tennessee 3-0 before dropping a 1-0 contest to Bowling Green.

UNF (2-7) opened the day with three hits against Tennessee and didn't threaten until the seventh inning when the Lady Ospreys put a pair of runners on base and put the tying run at the plate. They couldn't push a run across, however, leaving Devyn Findley with the loss.

Findley (0-4) gave up only five hits and allowed two earned runs while striking out five.

Ariana Godwin had a hit in both games to lead the UNF offense.

Shaina Dent (2-1) was equally as effective as Findley against Bowling Green, giving up only one unearned run in the bottom of the fifth. The UNF freshman allowed only three hits on the day, while giving up one walk and striking out five.

Along with Godwin, Ashley Battaglia, Airen Payne, Allyson Bailey and Laura Williams all had a base hit for UNF. The Lady Ospreys never put a runner past second base in the game and left two in scoring position.

UNF is back in action on Saturday when the Lady Ospreys take on South Carolina at 9 a.m. and Villanova at 1 p.m.
