UNF splits doubleheader at UCF
The victory in game two snapped a four-game losing streak for the Lady Ospreys (2-5) as well as a three-game losing streak to UCF (2-4).
UNF catcher Ashley Battaglia went 4-for-4 in the nightcap, scoring three runs and driving one home. Caroline Torre and Allyson Bailey also had a pair of hits in the winning effort, helping the Lady Ospreys to a 13-hit performance.
UCF began the second contest with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first off of UNF starter Shaina Dent. The Lady Ospreys answered with single runs in the second and third before grabbing a 6-2 advantage in the fifth.
Battaglia, Torre and Airen Payne each drove in a run during the fifth inning, with Battaglia collecting her third double on the afternoon. She followed that at-bat up with a triple in the sixth inning before scoring on a Torre RBI single.
The Knights countered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth before Devyn Findley came in to shut the door, earning her first save of the year after 1.1 innings of work. Dent (2-0) got the win after allowing eight hits and five runs – three of which were earned.
Findley (0-3) was the tough-luck loser in the first game, giving up four hits and two earned runs after striking out seven.
Battaglia, Torre and Bailey each had a hit in the opener, with Bailey scoring the team's only run.
