JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In search of its first win on an opponent's hardwood, the University of North Florida women's basketball team continues Atlantic Sun Conference play at Campbell at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, when one team will pick up its second win in league action.
UNF (2-14, 1-6 A-Sun) managed to limit the scoring of Jacksonville's starting five on Thursday night but had no answer for a Dolphin bench that scored 34 points. The Lady Ospreys also had a difficult time finding the bottom of the net, shooting .276 percent from the field and .500 percent from the free-throw line in a 61-42 loss.
Though the Lady Ospreys are allowing more than seven points per game above last season's 55.1 average, which ranked 16th in the nation, the team's offensive woes have resulted in the majority of the team's losses this season. UNF is 0-9 when failing to reach the 50-point mark and 2-3 when scoring above the half-century mark.
The team has shown steady improvement on the offensive end in terms of second-chance scoring, however. After scoring only 12 second-chance points on 18 offensive rebounds against USC Upstate and eight second-chance points on 21 offensive rebounds against Mercer, the Lady Ospreys netted a season-high 22 second-chance points against Jacksonville while grabbing 21 boards on the offensive glass.
Campbell (8-8, 1-6) has dropped its past four decisions – all A-Sun games – after ringing in the New Year with its lone league win against Mercer. The Camels are averaging less than 45 points during the stretch and had won three straight before it began. In its latest action, Campbell fell to Jacksonville, 72-57, on Saturday.

Who's Hot: Sophomore Juliemay Syquio came off the bench against Jacksonville on Thursday to score a season-high eight points. She connected on half of her attempts from the field (2-for-4) and sank all four of her tries from the charity stripe. She also showed a glimpse of the defensive dominance she became known for last season, nabbing three steals in 23 minutes of play.Â
Quoting Coach Tappmeyer: "I've been telling this young team that on a lot of nights our best offense will be our rebounding. We must be committed to going to the boards when we struggle shooting the ball. To overcome our shooting struggles, we need to believe we can put the ball in the hoop. Right now, we get down on ourselves and get frustrated when things aren't going according to plan. We must have a short memory and focus on things ahead of us."
