
Rutenbar pounds out four hits in split

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – University of North Florida center fielder Kara Rutenbar helped UNF to a doubleheader split at Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday, going 4-for-4 in the opening game, while scoring a pair of runs and driving in two.
UNF (34-21) won the opener 11-3 before the Wildcats (13-30) bounced back for a 5-1 victory in game two.
Heather Hyde had three hits on the day to complement Rutenbar's effort, while Tori Ahern earned a complete-game win in the opener.
The Lady Ospreys and Wildcats traded a pair of runs in the opening inning of game one before UNF took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third on Hyde's 11th home run of the season. Rutenbar and Hyde each drove home a run one inning later to give UNF a four-run advantage.
Rutenbar topped off the game with a double to left that plated a run in the sixth before Gwen Williams completed the scoring with a double that drove home two.
Ahern (15-8) finished off the game by retiring the final eight batters she faced. The senior surrendered two earned runs on five hits to go along with six strikeouts.
UNF couldn't keep its bats going in the nightcap against Bethune's Allison Garcia.
The Wildcats staked their hurler to a three-run lead in the opening inning of play against UNF's Joanna Kurycki (1-3). UNF took one of those runs back in the fourth inning when Stephanie Luciani was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, making it a 3-1 contest. UNF, however, couldn't do any more damage in the inning and left 10 runners on base in the loss.
Each team had seven hits in the contest with nobody collecting more than one hit.
