Findley opened the day with a four-hit shutout, striking out a career-high 12 batters in a 6-0 UNF (27-15) win, while Ahern followed her with a performance that saw her strike out seven in leading the Lady Ospreys to a 6-1 victory.
“Devyn was throwing well, her pitch count was down,” UNF head coach Sonya Wilmoth said. “They are good hitters and we knew that. We tried to keep them off balance and the pitchers did a good job.”
While Findley and Ahern took care of the pitching, Ashley Battaglia led a UNF offense – which collected 21 hits on the day – with four hits, driving is a pair of runs and scoring one.
The day got off to a good start for UNF, which scored three runs in the opening inning of play. Ashley Parenteau led off the game with a double and later came around to score on a Gwen Williams RBI single that also scored Heather Hyde on the play. Battaglia finished the scoring up with a base hit one batter later to bring home Williams, who moved up to second on a Lady Rattler error.
UNF added to that advantage when Caroline Torre drove home Battaglia who led off the inning with a base hit before scoring two more in the top of the fifth on RBI singles by Parenteau and Hyde.
That was enough for Findley who struck out the side in the bottom of the third, fourth and sixth innings, ending the sixth with her 12th strikeout of the game. Seven Lady Rattlers reached scoring position, But Findley was able to keep turning them away, allowing only four hits in the game.
Parenteau, Battaglia and Torre each had two hits in the game for the UNF offense, while Williams drove home a pair of runs.
Melissa Oliphant had two hits for FAMU, both doubles.
Parenteau got things started in game two for UNF, leading off the contest with a walk before scoring the first run of the game courtesy of an RBI single by Hyde. UNF's offense stayed stagnant until the fifth inning when Parenteau drove home Kacie McCloud with a triple down the left field line. She came into score when Heather Hyde reached on an error giving UNF a 3-0 advantage. Hyde completed the scoring on a Battaglia single to right two batters later.
Williams finally put a cherry on top of the day with a double to left center that plated a pair of runs and gave the Lady Ospreys the 6-0 win.
Ahern closed the complete-game effort out in the seventh inning, finally giving up the team's first run of the doubleheader.
Williams and Battaglia led the offensive effort, both going 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. McCloud also had a pair of hits.
Kara Rutenbar collected a hit in each game for the Lady Ospreys to extend her hitting streak to eight games.
