Battaglia had three doubles on the day in helping UNF (20-14) to a 9-1 win in the opener before closing out the sweep with a 7-2 victory.
“That was a good day for Ashley,” UNF head coach Sonya Wilmoth said. “She is hitting the ball hard and that's what we want from someone in the number four spot in our order.”
Battaglia went 3-for-3 in the opener before going 3-for-4 and being robbed of a base hit in the nightcap. She raised her batting average 45 points on the day and is now second on the team with a .322 batting average.
UNF collected 18 hits in all and got a combined 20 strikeouts from the pitching duo of Devyn Findley and Tori Ahern. The wins kept UNF's non-conference winning streak at home alive at 17. The Lady Ospreys have not lost a home game against a non-conference opponent since falling to
UNF wasted little time on Wednesday, scoring a pair of runs in the opening inning of play against the Tigers. Both of those runs came courtesy of a Battaglia RBI double to left-center. After a Caroline Torre home run in the bottom of the second, Battaglia helped make it a 5-0 game in the bottom of the third, doubling again to left-center before scoring on a Lauren Pulling RBI single that also scored Findley.
The Lady Ospreys finally sealed the win with four runs in the fourth, two of which came in on a Heather Hyde single.
Findley (11-7) took that cushion and ran with it, not allowing a hit until the fifth inning. That base hit up the middle by Ebony Stevenson later turned into
Ahern (8-5) matched Findley's 10 strikeouts, setting a season-high of her own in six innings of work that saw her allow two earned runs on four hits.
Jackson State took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but UNF came back in the bottom of the inning, scoring two on an Ashley Parenteau base hit. UNF rallied for four more runs in the fifth inning, with Nicollete Chimato collecting her first hit as a Lady Osprey to drive in a run.
Along with Battaglia's three hits in the game, Parenteau and Gwen Williams also had 2-for-4 performances at the plate with each of them driving in a pair of runs.
Joanna Kurycki came on in the seventh to nail the game down for the Lady Ospreys, pitching a scoreless inning of relief.
UNF is back in action on Thursday when it hosts an Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader against
