UNF to matchup with A-Sun newcomer at 7:15 p.m. Saturday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida men's basketball team will close out its 2007-08 season in Fort Myers on Saturday night when it takes on Atlantic Sun Conference newcomer Florida Gulf Coast, another former program that is transitioning from Division II to Division I. UNF is in their third year of the four-year reclassification period, while FGCU is in year one.
Because of NCAA rules, neither squad is eligible to participate in the A-Sun Tournament, which begins next week in Nashville. Both teams will call it a season when the final horn sounds on Saturday night.
For the Ospreys, Saturday's finale offers an opportunity to snap a 48-game road losing streak and to end the season on a high note by winning for the third time in six games. For FGCU, a win would give the Eagles an opportunity to move into a tie for eight place in the final standings in their first season as a league member.
UNF will bid farewell to three players on Saturday, with Chris Timberlake, James Grimball and Jonson Yousefzadeh playing in their final games for the Ospreys. Timberlake set the school record with his 115th game played on Thursday against Stetson and is tied for the career lead in games started with 103.
The game tips off at 7:15 p.m., with the contest aired locally in Jacksonville on WBOB-AM 1320 and carried live via the World Wide Web at www.ASUN.TV.
