Ospreys close out Gator Invite in 12th place

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida golfer Jeff Dennis fired a 1-over-par 71 on Sunday to close out the SunTrust Gator Invitational in a tie for 17^th place. Dennis' efforts, however, couldn't lift the Ospreys out of a 12^th-place finish in the team standings.

UNF fired a team score of 295 on Sunday, finishing three strokes behind Ole Miss with a three-round total of 865. Florida won the tournament with an 820 total, 12 strokes ahead of second place Florida State.

Duke's Michael Schachner finished tied for medalist honors with UAB's Zach Suchar at 7-under-par. Dennis finished seven strokes behind the pair, tied with Florida's Will Strickler, on a day in which he carded two bogeys and a birdie.

Chris Kennedy was the next highest Osprey in the individual rankings, finishing tied for 34^th after a round of 74. Jordan Gibb shot a 73 on the final day, while Michael O'Neal (77) and Major Forbess (82) followed for UNF.

The Ospreys are back on the course next Sunday through Tuesday when they host one of the best fields in collegiate golf at the 2008 John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club.
