Lady Ospreys meet up with Terriers again
The University of North Florida women's basketball team will see a familiar foe staring it in the face when it takes the court against Wofford Saturday.
The Lady Ospreys (4-6) and Terriers (6-4) squared off with each other on Dec. 19, which was the last time both teams saw live game action before breaking for the Christmas holiday. This time around the scene will be different with the teams meeting at Wofford and with plenty of rest. Both teams came into that first meeting at the UNF Holiday Classic after playing their opening games of the tournament the night before.
A little rest could be just what a short-handed UNF squad will need before it begins a busy stretch that includes the contest with Wofford (Dec. 29) followed by a non-conference tilt with SavannahState (Jan. 2) and conference games against Stetson (Jan. 5) and Florida Gulf Coast (Jan. 7). The last three games in that stretch will be played at UNF Arena.
Jennifer Guldager matched her season-high of 11 points in UNF's first meeting with Wofford, while leading the game with nine rebounds. The Lady Ospreys will also look to freshman Juliemay Syquio for a productive performance after she saw her streak of three-straight games in double figures snapped her last time out on the court.
Both teams were without their leading scorers in the first contest. UNF's Jennifer Bowen missed the game with a hand injury, while Wofford's Kelsi Koenig sat out with an ankle injury.
Liz Miller picked up the slacked for her injured teammate, earning all tournament honors for the Terriers after scoring 14 points against the Lady Ospreys, six of which came beyond the 3-point arc. Wofford left town with a three-game winning streak to feast on over the Christmas holiday, defeating SavannahState and conference foe UNC Greensboro in its previous two outings.
