
Ospreys open conference with win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida swimming and diving team opened Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association conference play on Saturday afternoon, defeating Campbell 190-98 at the UNF Aquatic Center.
The Lady Ospreys (3-0 in duals) were led by junior Caroline Poling, who picked up wins in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.26), 200-yard backstroke (2:12.93) and 100-yard butterfly (59.47).
"It was a good meet for us," head coach Beth Harrell said. "We swam really well. Several of our swimmers performed much better in their events than this time last season, so overall I am very pleased."
Freshman LynAnn Nelson continued her breakout season, picking up wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.86) and 100-yard freestyle (54.21), two events she had yet to compete in this season.
In the 1000-yard freestyle, freshman Sara Taylor clocked in at 10:50.22 and was the event's top finisher. Freshman Patricia Lanoue picked up a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly after recording a time of 2:15.42.
Freshman Megan Boudreau finished the 500-yard freestyle in first place, finishing with a time of 5:14.72, while Sara Taylor finished close behind with a time of 5:18.64.
UNF once again proved to be a dominate force in the relays, getting the meet started off with a win in the 200-medley relay. Poling, Krysten Nemecek, Lanoue and Nelson picked up the top finish after clocking in at 1:54.21.
Junior diver Emily Eisenhower swept the diving events for the second consecutive meet, finishing the 1-meter with 281.10 and the 3-meter a 366.55. Junior Debbie Rapoza finished the 1-meter with a 266.58 and the 3-meter with a 283.75.
The Lady Ospreys will return to action at 6 p.m. on Nov. 15 for a matchup with North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
